Are you interested in playing at Homer’s?
Homer’s Coffee House presents live music every Friday and Saturday night. About 90% of the bands or performers that play at Homer’s play here on a regular basis. Some groups play monthly, some quarterly, and some just a few times a year. We occasionally make room on our schedule for performers that have never played here before. These usually come recommended by other musicians, other venues, or fans who bring them to our attention.
The groups that play here regularly represent a wide variety of styles and genres. What they have in common is an ability to connect with the audience, an established and growing “fan base,” and a predominance of Christian oriented material. We do not require that all groups do only “Christian” songs, but only that the majority of their material present a Christian world-view.
The groups that play at Homer’s regularly often have a mailing list or e-mail list of several hundred fans, and can expect to attract about fifty to seventy-five of those fans on any given night.
While we occasionally ask prospective performers to drop off a demo CD, it would be rare that we would book a group based solely on a CD. We usually do not book groups that are not familiar with our venue. When we book new groups, those who have attended other concerts at Homer’s, are familiar with the other groups who play here, and have demonstrated an understanding of our culture, will receive higher priority.
We seldom book nationally known groups or groups from outside the bi-state area because we want to support local talent and we want groups with a local fan base.
We “pass-the-hat” at each show. The performers receive 100% of the hat. Those with a strong fan base and the ability to communicate through their music can expect a reasonable “hat.”
At Homer’s we see ourselves as a community. We are always open to add to our musical community and are always looking for new people to join us. We hope these guidelines will help you better understand our venue.
