Sound Guidelines
Thank you very much for being here to help with the sound. We really appreciate you.
There are microphones, cables, and direct boxes in the plastic drawers under the desk. You are welcome to use whatever you need. Please return equipment to where is was if possible.
The are twelve mike inputs on the stage snake corresponding to the inputs on the Mackie mixer.
The two monitor channels are the “Aux” channels on the mixer. There are speaker jacks above the snake on the west wall of the stage. Be sure the monitor amplifier is on.
The best sound is normally with all EQ set to flat with a little reverb. The reverb channel is “Effects 2” channel.
Our experience has shown that the best practice is to do a sound check with the monitors off to get the best house sound. Then turn the monitors up just enough that the musicians can hear. This will eliminate all feedback problems. In this room, all feedback is caused by poor monitor settings. Leaving the monitors set to “Post fade” so that they follow the house sound is generally more desirable. This procedure also eliminates the possibility that a microphone is on only in the monitor and not the house. This is a common mistake when this procedure is not followed.
Someone from the Homer’s staff will make an announcement at the end of each set. Do not turn off mikes while they are speaking!!
We have found it best to not use the mute buttons, except for momentary muting, because there is no lighted mute indicators. The position of the sliders are an easy visual indicators. Use of the mute buttons leads to frequent confusion.
Turn the stage lights up and the house lights down during performances.
The sound system was designed and installed by the Homer’s staff so we are intimately familiar with its capabilities. Please feel free to ask questions..
